Position: Architect - Tech Lead

Social impact start-up The Freebird Club is a peer-to-peer social travel and homestay club for the over 50s. It offers a new way of travelling for older adults, a means to generate income, and a fun way to meet new people and enjoy social and cultural interaction in later life. The Freebird Club uses the sharing economy to address social issues such as loneliness, isolation, and economic sustainability for older adults. Our mission is to connect and enrich the lives of older adults through meaningful travel.
Launched in Ireland in 2017, The Freebird Club has won multiple social innovation and impact awards, including the UNWTO World Tourism Startup Competition, the EIB Social Innovation Tournament and the EC European Social Innovation Competition. Having secured its first formal investment round involving major strategic investors in Spain and Portugal, The Freebird Club is now recruiting for key positions in its new Porto based tech team. Appointees will have an opportunity to work for a fast growing start-up with global ambitions, that is focused on creating real change and impact for an under-served yet rapidly growing demographic.
Location: Porto, Portugal
Role Description: Architect - Tech Lead
You will lead Freebird tech team and vendors focusing on getting the products up and running, conducting architecture and use case reviews, sizing & tuning and recommending deployment topologies.
Responsibilities

Help our team and vendors succeed by solving their challenging technical problems, all the way from design through to production operations. This means working together on hands-on customer issues, and escalating problems as needed.

Support all phases of code implementations, starting with architecture design and review, deployment topology planning, tuning and providing best practices.

Contribute to internal technical projects, which can include software development, benchmarking, troubleshooting.

Assist with PoC/Pilots through effective management of acceptance criteria and issue escalation/resolution.

Be the technical product expert and stay up-to-date.

Identify and write internal and external technical collateral, like typical deployment architectures or best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
-
At least 5+ years experience in consulting for enterprise back-end software

Strong background in Application design and development, Systems administration, Database administration, Data architecture and design, Performance tuning and benchmarking

Experience engaging with developers and programming experience in Java

Hands-on administration and troubleshooting experience with x86 operating systems (Linux, Windows, Mac OS), networking and storage architectures

Strong diagnostic/ troubleshooting process ability, with significant experience troubleshooting real, end-to-end technical issues

Design and enhance highly scalable, high performance and fault tolerant architectures across all tiers of the software and develop modules based on the architecture
Minimum Qualifications

Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to present technical solutions concisely from small to large audience

Demonstrated critical thinking and advanced troubleshooting skills and qualities

BS in Computer Science, Engineering or commensurate experience in software and/or a technologically relevant field

Clearly identifies with the business vision and mission, and is deeply motivated by the need to serve our customers optimally

Leadership skills; ability to coordinate and manage a team while getting the best out of them in a way that is empowering and allows them to grow

Strongly goal oriented, with a natural ability to prioritise and a keen sense of urgency

Flexibility in mindset and approach; able to think on one’s feet and act accordingly to get results
